Dear brothers and sister, Before concluding this Celebration, I would like to greet all of you, in particular, the pilgrims from various countries, among whom are numerous young people. I wish all of you a good Holy Week, even to those who are connected through the media. I am near to the dear people of Peru, who are experiencing a difficult moment of social tension. I am accompanying you with prayer and I encourage all parties to find a peaceful solution as soon as possible for the good of the country, especially of the poorest, respecting the rights of everyone and of the institutions.

친애하는 형제자매 여러분, 이 행사를 마치기 전에 저는 여러분 모두에게 특별히 많은 젊은이들을 포함하여 여러 나라에서 오신 순례자들에게 인사를 드립니다. 미디어를 통해 연결되어 있는 분들까지 여러분 모두 거룩한 성주간을 보내시기 바랍니다. 저는 사회적 긴장의 어려운 순간을 경험하고 있는 페루의 친애하는 국민들에게 마음으로 가까이 있습니다. 저는 기도로 여러분을 동반하고 있으며 모든 당사자들이 모든 사람과 기관의 권리를 존중하면서 국가 특히 가장 가난한 사람들의 이익을 위해 가능한 한 빨리 평화로운 해결책을 찾도록 권합니다.

In a moment, we will turn to the Blessed Mother with the Angelus Prayer. It was the Angel of the Lord himself who said to Mary in the Annunciation: “Nothing is impossible for God.” Nothing is impossible for God. He can even bring an end to a war whose end is not in sight, a war that daily places before our eyes heinous massacres and atrocious cruelty committed against defenseless civilians. Let us pray about this. We are in the days preceding Easter. We are preparing to celebrate the victory of the Lord Jesus Christ over sin and death – over sin and death – not over someone and against someone else. But today, there is a war. Because there is something to be won this way, according to the way of the world? This is only the way to lose. Why not allow Him to win? Christ bore his cross to free us from the dominion of evil. He died so that life, love, peace might reign.

잠시 후, 우리는 삼종기도로 복되신 성모님께 향할 것입니다. 주님탄생예고 축일에 마리아에게 “하느님께는 불가능한 일이 없다.”라고 말한 이는 주님의 천사 자신이었습니다. 하느님께는 불가능한 일이 없습니다. 그분은 끝이 보이지 않는 전쟁, 무방비 상태의 민간인에 대해 자행되는 극악무도한 학살과 잔혹한 잔학 행위가 매일 우리 눈앞에 펼쳐지는 전쟁에 종지부를 찍을 수도 있으십니다. 이를 위해 기도합시다. 우리는 부활절을 앞두고 있습니다. 우리는 다른 사람을 이기고 다른 사람을 대적해서가 아니라 죄와 죽음을 이기고 죄와 죽음에 대적해서 이기신 예수 그리스도의 승리에 대한 축하를 준비하고 있습니다. 그러나 오늘날 전쟁이 있습니다. 세상의 이치에 따라 이런 식으로 이겨야 할 것이 있기 때문입니까? 이것은 단지 잃는 길입니다. 왜 그분이 이기시도록 하지 않습니까? 그리스도는 악의 지배에서 우리를 해방시키기 위해서 십자가를 지셨습니다. 그분은 생명, 사랑, 평화가 통치하도록 죽으셨습니다.

Let the weapons be put down! Let the Easter truce begin. But not to provide more weapons and pick up the combat again – no! – a truce that will lead to peace, through real negotiation that is even disposed to some sacrifice for the good of the people. In fact, what victory is there in planting a flag on a pile of rubble? Nothing is impossible for God. We entrust this to Him through the intercession of the Virgin Mary.

무기를 내려놓도록 합시다! 부활절 휴전이 시작되도록 합시다. 그러나 더 많은 무기를 준비하고 다시 전투를 시작하기 위한 휴전이 아닙니다. 아닙니다. 백성의 이익을 위해서 희생도 감수하는 진정한 협상을 통해 평화로 이끄는 휴전이어야 합니다. 사실 잔해더미에 깃발을 꽂는 것에 무슨 승리가 있겠습니까? 하느님께는 불가능한 일이 없습니다. 우리는 이것을 동정마리아의 중재를 통해 그분께 의탁합니다.
