Dear brothers and sisters, happy Sunday! Today we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family, and the Liturgy offers us the story of their flight into Egypt (cf. Mt 2:13-15, 19-23).

사랑하는 형제자매 여러분, 복된 주일입니다! 오늘은 예수, 마리아, 요셉의 성가정 축일이며, 전례는 성가정이 이집트로 피난하는 이야기를 전해줍니다. (마태오 2:13-15, 19-23 참조)
It is a moment of trial for Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Indeed, the bright image of Christmas is suddenly almost eclipsed by the disturbing shadow of a deadly threat, which has its origin in the troubled life of Herod. A cruel and bloodthirsty man, who is feared for his brutality, but precisely for this reason he is deeply lonely and gripped with the fear of being deposed. When he learns from the Magi that the “king of the Jews” has been born (Mt 2:2), feeling this to be a threat to his power, he decrees that all children of the same age as Jesus should be killed.
예수님과 마리아, 요셉에게는 시련의 순간입니다. 진정 밝은 크리스마스의 모습은 갑자기 어두워집니다. 헤로데의 불안정한 삶에서 비롯된 치명적인 위협의 충격적인 그림자에 가려진 것입니다. 잔인하고 피에 굶주린 헤로데는 그의 잔혹성으로 공포의 대상이지만, 바로 그 때문에 그는 깊은 외로움에 시달리고 왕위에서 쫓겨날지도 모른다는 두려움에 사로잡혀 있습니다. 동방 박사들로부터 "유대인의 왕"이 태어났다는 소식을 듣고 (마태복음 2:2), 자신의 권력에 위협이 된다고 느낀 그는 예수님과 같은 나이의 모든 아이들을 죽이라는 칙령을 내립니다.
In his kingdom, God is performing the greatest miracle in history, in which all the ancient promises of salvation are fulfilled, but he cannot see this because he is blinded by the fear of losing his throne, riches and privileges. In Bethlehem there is light and joy as some shepherds have received the heavenly announcement and have glorified God before the manger (cf. Lk 2:8-20). But none of this can penetrate the armored defenses of the royal palace, except as a distorted echo of a threat to be stifled with blind violence.
헤로데의 왕국에서 하느님께서 역사상 가장 위대한 기적을 행하고 계십니다. 그 기적 속에서 모든 구원의 옛 약속들이 성취되고 있습니다. 그러나 헤로데는 자신의 왕좌와 부 그리고 특권을 잃을지도 모른다는 두려움에 눈이 멀어 이 기적을 보지 못합니다. 몇몇 목자들이 하늘의 계시를 받고 구유 앞에서 하느님을 찬양한 것과 같이 (루카 2, 8-20 참조) 베들레헴에는 빛과 기쁨이 있습니다. 하지만 이것은 왕궁의 견고한 방어벽을 뚫을 수 없고, 오직 맹목적인 폭력으로 억눌러야 할 위협의 왜곡된 메아리로만 들릴 뿐입니다.
It is precisely this hardness of heart, however, that further highlights the value of the presence and mission of the Holy Family. In the despotic and greedy world represented by the tyrant, it is the birthplace and cradle of the only possible answer of salvation, that of God who, in total gratuitousness, gives himself to men without reserve and without pretension. Being obedient to the voice of the Lord by taking his Bride and child to safety, the gesture of Joseph is revealed in all its redemptive significance. In Egypt, the flame of domestic love, to which the Lord has entrusted his presence in the world, grows and gains strength in order to bring light to the whole world.
그러나 바로 이러한 마음의 완고함이야말로 성가정의 존재와 사명의 가치를 더욱 부각시킵니다. 폭군으로 대표되는 전제적이고 탐욕스러운 세상 안에, 성가정은 유일하게 가능한 구원의 해답의 탄생지이며 요람입니다. 그 구원은 하느님께서 무상으로 주저함이나 가식 없이 자신을 인간에게 주시는 구원입니다. 주님의 음성에 순종하여 신부와 아기를 안전한 곳으로 데려가는 요셉의 행동은 모든 구원의 의미를 드러냅니다. 이집트에서, 주님께서 자신의 현존을 맡기신 성가정의 사랑의 불꽃이, 온 세상에 빛을 비추기 위해, 더욱 커지고 강해집니다.
As we contemplate this mystery with wonder and gratitude, we think of our families and the light they can bring to the society in which we live. Unfortunately, the world always has its “Herods,” its myths of success at any cost, of unscrupulous power, of empty and superficial well-being, and it often pays the price in the form of loneliness, despair, divisions and conflicts. Let us not allow these mirages to suffocate the flame of love in Christian families. On the contrary, in our families, we should cherish the values of the Gospel: prayer, frequent reception of the sacraments – especially Confession and Communion – healthy affections, sincere dialogue, fidelity, and the simple and beautiful concreteness of everyday words and gestures. This will make them a light of hope for the places in which we live; a school of love and an instrument of salvation in God’s hands (cf. Francis, Homily at Mass for the 10th World Meeting of Families, 25 June 2022).
이 신비를 경이로움과 감사한 마음으로 묵상하며, 우리는 우리의 가정과, 그 가정이 우리가 사는 세상에 비출 빛을 생각합니다. 안타깝게도 세상에는 언제나 '헤로데“가 있고, 어떤 대가를 치르더라도 성공을 추구하는 헤로데의 신화, 부도덕한 권력, 공허하고 피상적인 행복의 신화가 있고, 그 대가는 종종 외로움, 절망, 분열, 갈등으로 나타납니다. 이러한 신기루들이 그리스도인 가정의 사랑의 불꽃을 꺼뜨리지 못하게 합시다. 반대로 우리 가정에서 우리는 복음의 가치들을 다음의 일상을 통해 소중히 여겨야 합니다. 기도, 잦은 성사 참여 - 특히 고해성사와 영성체 - 건강한 애정, 진솔한 대화, 신실함, 그리고 일상 속의 말과 행동의 소박하고 아름다운 구체성 등입니다. 이렇게 함으로써 우리의 가정을 우리가 사는 곳에 희망의 빛이 되게 할 것입니다. 즉 사랑의 학교이자 하느님의 손 안의 구원의 도구가 되게 합니다. Let us therefore ask our Father in Heaven, through the intercession of Mary and Saint Joseph, to bless our families and all families throughout the world, so that by following the model of his Son made man, they may be for all an efficacious sign of his presence and his endless charity.
그러므로 하늘에 계신 우리 아버지께 성모 마리아와 성 요셉의 전구를 통해 우리 가정과 전 세계 모든 가정을 축복하시어, 사람이 되신 당신의 아들의 모범을 따라 모든 가정이 당신의 현존과 끝없는 사랑의 효과적인 표징이 되게 해주시기를 청합시다.

In particular, I greet the young people from Clusone, Gerenzano, and San Bartolomeo in Bosco, the confirmands from Adrara San Martino, the young people and altar servers from Brescia, the participants in the pilgrimage of the Pastoral Unit of Sarezzo, and the Scouts from Treviso.

I also greet the educators of Catholic Action in Limena and Morciano (Romagna), the leaders of the San Pius X Oratory in Portogruaro, the group of volunteers from Borgomanero, the faithful of San Cataldo and Serradifalco, and the members of the Pro Loco of Sant’Egidio del Monte Albino.
또한 저는 리메나와 모르치아노(로마냐)의 가톨릭 활동 교육자들, 포르토그루아로의 산 비오 10세 오라토리오 지도자들, 보르고마네로의 자원봉사자 그룹, 산 카탈도와 세라디팔코의 신자들, 그리고 산트 에지디오 델 몬테 알비노의 프로 로코 회원들에게도 인사를 드립니다.
In the light of the Nativity of the Lord, let us continue to pray for peace. Today, in particular, let us pray for families suffering because of war, especially for children, elderly and the most vulnerable. Let us entrust ourselves together to the intercession of the Holy Family of Nazareth.
주님 탄생을 맞아 평화를 위해 기도합시다. 특히 오늘은 전쟁으로 고통 받는 가정, 특별히 어린이와 노인, 그리고 가장 취약한 이들을 위해 기도합시다. 우리 모두 나사렛 성가정의 전구에 우리 자신을 맡깁시다.
